Hi! My name is Jordan, and I am originally from St. Louis, Mo. metropolitan area. I was diagnosed with severe depression and bi-polar at a young age,. In the summer of 2010, I moved to Florida to attend a “dual-diagnoses” program, which offers treatment for both mental illness and substance abuse. What a relief it was to see other’s struggling with the same battle I was! Without receiving help, I don’t see how I could have survived living that way.
Today, I am so happy to be a part of Banyan’s Treatment team. Not only do they offer help for drug and alcohol abuse, they help people that struggle with dual diagnoses too! They truly understand the need to self-medicate by abusing drugs and alcohol, and help patients struggling with this every day. My position at Banyan is an intake counselor. I get the privilege to meet with the patients on their first day to complete their admission. Admitting into a treatment center is a humbling experience for anyone, and is it not un-common to see a lot of anxiety and fear. My job is to motivate and show our patients that they ARE deserving and capable of living a healthy life.
It is well known addiction is a family disease, and everyone involved is hurting in some way. I speak with the families on a regular basis during our patients stay, and I am so grateful to witness how the families are progressing just as much as their loved ones!
Working at Banyan has been one of the biggest blessings in my life; I have seen this establishment help so many families and people struggling with mental illness and substance abuse. I see firsthand how this epidemic is effecting our entire country, and I am so grateful to be a part of the Banyan solution.
