My name is Kristen and I am from Westchester, NY. I began my life in recovery on December 29th, 2014. After going through treatment, sober living and working my 12 steps I started my journey at Banyan Treatment Center. I started working as a BHT then moved to a Lead BHT and now I am an Alumni Coordinator!
Working as a BHT was a goal I had after going through treatment. One of my favorite parts of the job was being able to pick up our new clients from the airport and be that first contact they have getting off the plane.
I remember how anxious I was as well as my family about me coming to Florida for treatment. I was extremely grateful to be able to let these girls know that I’ve felt the same way as they do and have been through exactly what they’re going through. Another one of my favorite parts of being a BHT was taking our clients on outings. I loved watching them smile, laugh and genuinely have fun, free from any substance for the first time! I also was able to connect with our clients on a deeper level while spending time with them at our housing. Watching them come in completely broken to leaving with hope and a new outlook on recovery, that was the most amazing part of my job.
As I am now transitioning into the role of an Alumni Coordinator, I get to see another amazing part of what Banyan has to offer. Working as a BHT, I was able to be involved with our client’s treatment process. Now working in the alumni program, I get to support those same clients I saw come to life transition into their new life of recovery and sobriety. From the day I started working at Banyan, I took this opportunity as a gift. I feel blessed to be able to grow within such a great company!
For those of you in the Alumni community I have not had the chance to meet yet, I encourage you to reach out. I look forward to speaking with each and every one of you on the phone, and getting exciting updates on what life after Banyan has been like for you. At Banyan Treatment Center, we know that there must be continued work on you after treatment and that is exactly what David Goloski and I am here for.
