5 Reasons Being Sober is Awesome

Now that I’m sober, I’ve come to realize that there are a lot of advantages to living a sober lifestyle. In my active addiction, I was absolutely miserable and today I don’t have to live that way. Here are some reasons why being sober is awesome…

1. I remember everything today

Now that I am sober there is no more blacking out or calling my friends after a night out to get bits and pieces of my memory put together like a jigsaw puzzle. I actually remember everything I do today. I wake up and I know exactly where I am and I recall conversations, people I saw, places I went and overall I remember what an awesome time I had!

2. I don’t have to deal with hangovers

I NEVER have a hangover and that in itself is freaking amazing! I never wake up to feeling like my head is going to explode or feeling nausea and vomiting. There is no recovery process after a night out anymore. Just knowing that I never have to feel that way again is a wonderful feeling!

3. My relationships are stronger

My loved ones actually want to be around me today and spend time with me. They are proud of who I am today and just enjoy my presence. It truly is a beautiful gift to have rebuilt and repaired the relationships with my family and friends. Today I am more mindful of conversations and I want to be familiar with how I can help people. I try to take into consideration how others feel and how my actions can have more of an affirmative influence as opposed to the destructive impact I used to transmit with me everywhere I went.

4. I have energy and am healthy today

When I think about the way I treated my body in the past, it makes me cringe. I put disgusting toxins in my body constantly and was very unhealthy. Today I look much healthier and feel so much better about myself. With being healthier, I have more energy. I used to literally not even leave my bed unless I absolutely had to, but today I get a good night’s sleep and go through each day like a functioning member of society. My mind is stronger and I am way more focused than ever before.

5. I enjoy life more today

I enjoy my life today and have an inner peace that no one could take from me. In my active addiction, life was miserable and today it is absolutely wonderful. I have real friends today, go to meetings, work a program of recovery, have a good job and live my life to help others. Instead of partying and getting wasted because I’m happy or trying to relax today, I spend time with the people I care about and have recently taken up yoga as a hobby. My life is great and if I do the right thing I know that it will just continue to get better.

All in all, today my life is nothing like I expected but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have tons of fun in sobriety and life is not even close to boring. Don’t get me wrong, there are bad days and good days but I just handle them differently today. I hope everyone has a fun-filled Memorial Day weekend!
